Welcome back to school!  I hope you had a great Thanksgiving with family and friends.  Reading:  Lesson 11  Goals are fluency, making inferences and reading/spelling words with /or/ sound. 

 Math goals are learning differences from 12.  Please go over daily work for reinforcement and  read the support books in the ziplock to build fluency.

 ATTACHED IN AN INFORMATION SHEET FOR THE TICKET TO READ PROGRAM.  Our school has purchased this new program to help students with fluency.  This sheet provides you with the information for your child to log in and get started.  I hope you utilize this resource and have fun. 

 December 6 is Ms. G last day with us here at OGE.  She has been an amazing influence on our class and we wish her all the best in her future career.  

 Reminders:

We are still collecting items for the first grade “movie” basket for Breakfast with Santa Dec. 7 at OGW.

Reading Lesson 10 Goals:
1. Fluency 2. Read and spell words with ending –NG 3. Contractions‘ll. 
 We will continue our grammar study on nouns. Continue to work on completing Book It for the month of November. As always, go over the books in the Ziploc, read our weekly story, and go over daily work for reinforcement. 

 Math Chapter Four Goals:
1. Fluency 2. Subtraction- differences from 8.
We will take our chapter test on Wednesday, November 20. A homework sheet will be sent out on Tuesday that will be practice for the test. Please continue to go over daily assignments. 

Science/Social Studies Goals:
 We will continue our study on Thanksgiving. This week, our focus will be on comparing and contrasting Thanksgiving in the past to the preset. Please feel free to send any materials that will enhance our study.

Reminder:
 Wednesday, November 20 is a SIP day and students will be dismissed at 11:45am.

Here are some of the abbreviations we use
in our first grade class.
TIC=  together in class (whole class work) 
TIP = together in pod (small group word) , WAP = with a partner ( groups of two)
HTD= have to do work (homework that needs be completed and returned),
WTD= want to do (you choose whether you want to do for
enrichment/extension).

In reading we are on lesson 9. The reading goals are:  1.  Fluency 2. 
comprehension using details and 3. Read/spell words with short
/u/.Remember to read for November Book It. As
always, go over daily work for reinforcement and contact me for any
questions.

Math goals:  1.  Fluency (using learned strategies  to accurately solve new problems) and 2. subtraction facts with difference to 8. As always, go over daily work for reinforcement.

In Science/Social Studies we are learning about the story and traditions of
Thanksgiving.

Nov. 11 is Veteran’s Day!  No school on this date.  
 
PTO meeting is Thursday Nov.  14 at 6:30 in the library at OGE. 
I hope you can attend to volunteer your time/talents making our school an awesome place.   Your participation makes a difference!

Reading goals for lesson 8 are 1. Fluency 2. Comprehension using details 3. Read and spell words with /th/. A new study guide and support
story, Where is Seth is in the zip lock.  Please read the support stories as
often as you can to build fluency and confidence. A new Book It sheet went home for the month of November.  
 
Please work on writing in complete sentences with your child at home. 
We have been learning about telling, asking and exclamation sentences.  We continue our grammar study with learning about nouns.

Math goals are 1. Finding the difference to 8 2. Fluency using strategies/skills. Please go over math work daily for reinforcement.

I look forward to our parent/teacher conferences next week.

Reading:  Book 3    A new study guide for
lesson 7 is in the ziplock for easy reference.  Our goals for reading are: 
fluency, compare/contrast/asking questions and reading/spelling words
with short/e/. Don’t forget Book It for Oct. is due Oct. 31.

A new support story, Meg’s Bad Day is in the ziplock.  Please read this
story daily along with lesson 7 stories daily.  This will help your child with fluency and build confidence.

Math:   We start a new chapter on subtraction.  Our goal is subtraction facts with differences to 8.  Please go over daily work for reinforcement.

 We are going to making fun decorations for our Halloween party.  The parade begins at 10:15 followed by a classroom party.  School dismissal is 11:45.  However, students may leave earlier with a parent.  Donations for decorations, treats and prizes would be appreciated.  Please make sure your child can dress themselves into their costumes.

Oct. is Fire Safety Awareness Month and we will be discussing ways to be safe.  Please discuss this at home.

Reading Lesson 6   
Our reading goals are 1. 
Fluency 2. Classify 3. Read and spell words with –all
A study guide is in the take-home ziplock for easy reference.  A new support book Thank you Mom is also in the ziplock.  Remember, the books in the ziplock will help with your child’s fluency and should be read as often as possible.  This week your child will also be
tested on lessons 1-6  high-frequency words.  A list of these words are also in the ziplock.

The math goal is addition sums to 12.
On Thursday your child will be bringing home a homework assignment pg. 117 (HTD) and pg. 118 (WTD) for enrichment.  We will have ou chapter test Friday.  Please go over daily work for reinforcement. 

In science we continue our study of Fall Things! Please bring in leaves for
fun hands on lessons.

Don’t forget to turn in Box Tops!  Don’t forget to read for Book
It!
This week is also Red Ribbon Week or “Reach for the Stars NOT Drugs, Alcohol, Abuse and Smoking.  Mon. favorite team shirt day, Tues. mix match clothes day, Wed. wear silly hat, Thurs. wear silly shoes and Fri. silly hair.

Club Choice pick up 2:30-5:30 at OGE.

Quarter 1 ends Oct. 25!  Please return the conference schedule that went home 10/16 as soon as possible.  I will send home a confirmation for your parent/teacher conference 10/23.

The Halloween party is OCT. 31 from 10:15 to 11:45. The parade on the
playground begins 10:15 followed by the classroom party.  Donations for party treats and prizes would be appreciated. Your child needs to be able to dress themselves into their costumes.  NO TOY WEAPONS.

Reading  Lesson 5   Goals 1.  Fluency  2. Characters 3. Read/spell words with short /o/. Please go over daily work.  We start a new reading program called “Book It”. Information is attached.  Book It is another authentic way to help motivate reading!

Math  goal is to add to sums 12.  Please go over daily work for reinforcement.  Strategies used in class are:  count on, 10 frame, turn-around facts, doubles, doubles plus 1 and touch points.  Have your child explain what these strategies are for reinforcement. Remember, we are collecting Box Tops!

In Science we are learning about “Fall Things”. Please have your child
share any materials that would enhance and excite our learning.  For ex. Colored leaves, seeds, gourds ect…….

 The Halloween festivities for Thurs. Oct. 31 begin at 10:15 with our school parade.  Then, back to the classroom for a party!
Costumes will be put on at 10am.  Students need to be able to dress in
their costumes by themselves.  NO toy weapons of any kind are allowed.  Donations for the party would be greatly appreciated.  We need drinks, snacks, decorations and prizes.  Parents are welcome to join us for the festivities.  We have 11:45 early dismissal on this date.

Please read the support in the ziploc as often as possible.  This helps with
fluency and confidence.  Our support story this week is Jack and Sid.

Math:  Goal sums to 12  
Please go over daily work for reinforcement. 
Talk to your child about the strategies used for addition. For ex.
Doubles, doubles plus 1, count on, using a 10 frame and touch
points.

*A homework sheet will go home on Monday for lesson 4.  
*In Science we will continue our study of living things with a focus on plants.  Please have your child share with the class plants, leaves or other
materials that would enhance our learning.

A study guide for Lesson 3 is going home today 9/27.  A new support book , Ann and Max is in the Ziploc.  Your child will bring home their reading book Mon-Thurs.  No homework over the weekend!  As always, please go over daily work for reinforcement.

Math goal 1. Addition sums to 12 Please go over daily work for
reinforcement.  We are learning many strategies for addition. For ex. Using a 10 frame, using manipulatives,  counting on, number line, touch points, memorization, double facts with pictures, doubles plus 1 and
songs.

Reminders:
*In grammar we are writing in simple
COMPLETE sentences with an emphasis on naming
 parts.
*In Science we continue our study of living
things with an emphasis on insects and plants.  As always, please share any materials you have to enhance our learning in Science.  We have a science table in the classroom with our pet fish, “Little Blue”.  We are collecting items to closely observe.  For ex. Fall things, seeds, plants, ect…….. Also, keep your eyes open for a preying mantis insects.  If you’re lucky enough to find and catch one please bring it to school for further Science investigation.
